If you have another computer with Firewire capability:
1.) Boot your "problem" mac. As soon on you hear the "bong" sound, hold down the "T" key. You will see a firewire logo appear.
2.) Attach "problem" mac to another machine via firewire cable.
3.) Watch "problem" mac appear on other machine as a Firewire Hard Drive.
This would allow you to slurp pretty much any data of it that you need.

"If you do not have an administrator password, either, you can still reset the root password. Boot the system from the Mac OS X installation CD and select the Reset password option from the installer screen and follow the directions."
Alternatively, I'm sure a mac tech could do it for you
Check 2006 ezoon blog entries, maybe 2005. One entry talks about some type of techno monkey thing he wanted or thought was funky? Just a thought.
Your best bet really is booting from the OS media and resetting the password. I've done this. If you need help, this nickname is also my gmail address...
nothing to do with passwords, but:
a friend of mine wrote this in his blog recently, as part of an entry about the upcoming anniversary of his daughter's passing...and i wanted to share his words with everyone who is missing Greg:
"[W]e would do better to remember her birthday, and celebrate it, than dwell on the day she died. He reminded us all that (my son is wise) there are many people in our lives who are no longer living that we go to to learn from, and we do not mourn them but are grateful that they lived and left so many gifts for us to study. These are the people who help us grow and nourish our souls and spirits."

You can boot from the CD and then change the root password that way and then change greg's password once you have the root password. I could do this for you too if i had greg's computer in my hands.
