red menace

I watched the buena vista video chinese version of Spirited Away. It totally has a red tint. I tried playing with the color white point/coolness settings between 9300 and 5000, etc. Not much help. I really hope the U.S. version doesn't have the tint. I'm also glad I didn't pre-order the Japanese version.

I love this movie. It was great seeing it again. It does feel kinda disjointed to me even though it makes sense overall. Not the smoothest flowing narrative, but one I enjoy. I am still undecided between Spirited Away and Kiki's Delivery Service as my favorite Studio Ghibli/Miyazaki film.

I do indeed gravitate towards these coming of age type stories.

I've heard a couple times that the R1 Spirited Away will not have the red tint. Some people on the Miyazaki Mailing List who have recieved VHS preview copies of the DVD (or.. soemthing like that... don't really know what they are myself) have said that there is no red tint as well. ^_^

specifically, BVUSA is working to correct the red tint so the US release doesn't have it. they are very aware it is one of the key points fans will be looking for when Sen is released. now how they are correcting the red tint, as best as they can, i am unsure of.

if they over-correct at any point then the color spectrum will still be fubared. it's more than just the red that is out of whack on the Sen dvd. it's just the red that is most noticeable.

i am peeved that i am not getting my japanese DTS track >.<
DD5.1 is nice, but DTS is Pristine ^_^

video and audio gripes aside, i am so looking forward to this release and seeing Sen, hopefully with no red tint, correctly scaled colors, literal subtitles, and a fully Progressive anamorphic encode **sparkles**
