Well, the good news is that someone has licensed Shaman King. The bad news is that it's 4kids are the ones who have it (along with Sonic X). This just about assure a dub only release (and probably cut). Someone needs to let these folks know how much they are annoying anime fans. I've only really just started watching Shaman King, but it's quite fun (even though definitely more kid oriented).

I also sent a quick e-mail to FUNimation (since they distribute 4Kids titles, but have no hand in their creation) informing them that there is a demand for a subtitled-only alternative DVD for Shaman King. Since it's probably FUNimation that would have to negotiate with 4Kids to create a subtitled Shaman King, they would probably be the better company to contact.

I kept hearing both sides of this battle fight, and I kept wondering, "Should I watch the anime?"
Then I found out- Manta's name in the dub is going to be Mortmier. They are changing the names- and changing them horribly. Besides, their original names sounded SO MUCH BETTER!
*Runs and repeatedly hits her head against the wall.*
PS: If you think about it, Ash's, Misty's, and Brock's names were changed too. (Duh.)
So, what? Are they going to name Yoh something like Jason?! (no offense to any Jason, but Yoh is Yoh.)

i have seen the seires for 4kids and yoh was still name (thank god) horo horo was still name horo horo but as nickname: Tray racer.
manta is now morty, and ren tao is now len tao from the series, and for horo horo's spirt is now named corey (i might have misspelled, forgive me) I don't know the rest because I haven't seen it yet.

Hey i am back and i have a few more names that i have found that change. Ryu of the wooden sword is now Ryo, amiadamaru's hurasamue is now the sword of light.

After some searching, I found an e-mail address for 4Kids and sent them off a quick, polite e-mail, asking them to *please* offer a dubbed version, or at least a dubbed-only alternative version (a la Card Captor Sakura or Sailor Moon). Don't know if it will ever reach the right person, but maybe someone will hear it...
