Four Hours

Four Hours till Shaman King airs on Fox. I've already read a little bit about the name changes they've made in it. Manta is now Mortimer. Pretty lame. I can't really figure out any good reason for it, except to annoy fans. Ryo is now Rio. And Tao Ren is Tao Len. Now, the last time could be considered a translation thing with L and R, but when the manga has already been running for around 8 or 9 months in the US with the name Tao Ren (and Manta and Ryu), you'd think they'd have them all match. Especially since the show is being hyped pretty heavily in Shonen Jump (where the manga runs). Oh well, we shall see.

You know, I think I've figured it out: 4Kids doesn't really believe in kids' intelligence. Sure, they probably don't believe that idea consciously, but their actions prove it. They seem to think that kids won't be able to understand strict translations, kanji characters or Japanese names, so they just edit them all out. Of course, kids are much smarter than that.

The problem (for 4Kids anyway) is that thousands, if not millions of kids have already read Shaman King with the proper translations and the proper names and hopefully people will begin to realize what a snow job 4Kids is pulling.

The only chance of 4Kids ever changing their actions is for their target audience (or the people who buy things for their target audience) to complain.
